How to uninstall Logi Options+ on a Mac

Updated October 30, 2026 · Steps checked against Logitech's support pages on that date

Logi Options+ is Logitech's own app for setting up its mice and keyboards on a Mac. If you want it off your Mac, Logitech documents two ways to do it: a quick one that removes the app, and a complete one that also clears out leftover Logitech files. Both are below, following Logitech's steps.

The steps come from two Logitech support articles, linked under Sources. Logitech's pages show no edit date, so if a step does not match what you see, check the articles.

Quick uninstall: move the app to the Trash

This is the basic uninstall in Logitech's “Uninstalling Logi Options+” article:

  1. Close the Options+ window if it is open.
  2. Open the Applications folder.
  3. Right-click Options+ and choose Move to Trash.

If you only wanted the app gone, that may be all you need. Logitech's article does not say whether any files stay behind, so if the app still misbehaves or you want no trace of it, continue with the complete uninstall.

Complete uninstall: remove the leftover Logitech files

Logitech's second article, “How to completely uninstall Logi Options and Options+”, adds these steps for macOS. Do the quick uninstall first.

  1. Open Finder, then choose Go, then Go to Folder in the menu bar.
  2. Type /Library in the box and press Enter.
  3. Use the search bar to search the folder for “Logitech”, then click the Library option next to the search field so only that folder is searched.
  4. Select the files related to Logitech, right-click and choose Move to Trash.
  5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 for the Library folder in your home folder, ~/Library.
  6. Delete LogiPluginService.app from /Applications/Utilities and from ~/Applications/Utilities, if it is there.
  7. Restart your Mac.
  8. Check that macOS is up to date.

Look before you trash. Logitech's article says to move all files related to Logitech. That can include files that belong to other Logitech software you still use, so read each file's name and location before you delete it.

Where Logitech says the leftovers live

Per Logitech's article, search for Logitech files in /Library and in ~/Library, in these folders:

  • Application Support, including Application Support/Logi/LogiPluginService
  • Preferences
  • Caches
  • LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons
  • PreferencePanes
  • StartupItems

The same article also lists LogiPluginService.app in /Applications/Utilities and ~/Applications/Utilities, and Logi Options+ Driver Installer.bundle in /Applications/Utilities. Restart your Mac after deleting.

After it is gone: your mouse buttons

With Options+ removed, Logitech's special buttons are no longer assigned by Logitech's software. What macOS does with a Logitech mouse on its own is covered on our MX Master 3S page.

If you want those buttons to do something again, Upright is a free, open-source (MIT) menu-bar app for macOS 13 or later that remaps the buttons on Logitech mice over HID++. It has gestures, per-app profiles, pointer speed (DPI) presets and battery alerts, with no account and no analytics, and it writes nothing to the mouse. Honest limits: it works with Logitech mice only, only the MX Vertical has been verified on real hardware, and macOS blocks its first launch until you allow it (the FAQ shows how).

Upright is not a repair for Logi Options+; it is a replacement you can install once Options+ is gone. Not sure which app suits you? See the Logi Options+ alternatives for Mac.

FAQ

Is moving Logi Options+ to the Trash enough?

That is the step in Logitech's basic uninstall article for Mac. Logitech also publishes a second article for a complete uninstall that lists leftover Logitech files in the Library folders. Follow it if you want those gone as well.

Where does Logi Options+ keep its files on a Mac?

Logitech's complete-uninstall article tells you to look for Logitech files in /Library and ~/Library, in the Application Support, Preferences, Caches, LaunchAgents, LaunchDaemons, PreferencePanes and StartupItems folders. It also names LogiPluginService.app in /Applications/Utilities and a Logi Options+ Driver Installer.bundle.

Does this also remove the older Logitech Options?

Logitech's complete-uninstall article is titled for both Logi Options and Options+, and it says the older Logitech Options has reached end of support and recommends Logi Options+. The Mac steps in it are the same for both.

Do I have to uninstall Logi Options+ to use Upright?

No. Quitting it and removing it from your login items is enough while you use Upright, because only one app can have control of the buttons. Uninstalling is the tidier way.

Is Upright affiliated with Logitech?

No. Upright is an independent, open-source project made by Basalt Studio. Logitech, MX and Logi Options+ are trademarks of Logitech.
