Buttons

Every button on the MX Vertical, yours to set.

The MX Vertical has four buttons software can take over. A fresh install remaps nothing, so each one keeps its normal behavior until you give it a new job.

Mouse button 4 out of the box
Forward
Mouse button 5 out of the box
Top (DPI) button

Remap

Give each button a better job.

Map any of the four to Mission Control, App Exposé, Show Desktop, switching Spaces, media keys, any keyboard shortcut, an app, a URL or a Shortcuts.app shortcut.

  • Gestures: five actions
  • Per-app profiles
  • Cycle speed presets
  • Do Nothing

Pointer speed

Set the MX Vertical's DPI, and keep it.

Pick a speed with a slider, save presets and map a button to cycle through them; Upright applies your speed again whenever the mouse reconnects.

Connections

Cable, receiver or Bluetooth.

What's been tested with a real MX Vertical, and what hasn't.

Verified

USB cable

Plug the MX Vertical's charging cable into your Mac. Tested on real hardware.

Verified

Unifying receiver

The small receiver that came with the mouse. Tested on real hardware.

Best effort

Bluetooth

Works when macOS exposes the mouse's HID++ interface, and may need Input Monitoring. The MX Vertical can't pair with a Bolt receiver.

Nothing is written to the mouse. Quit Upright, or switch the MX Vertical off and on, and every button is back to factory behavior.

FAQ

MX Vertical questions

More in the main FAQ, or open an issue on GitHub.

Can I use the Logitech MX Vertical on a Mac without Logi Options+?

Yes. Upright talks to the MX Vertical directly over Logitech's HID++ protocol, so you can remap its buttons and set its pointer speed with no Logitech software, no account and no background daemon.

How do I remap the MX Vertical's top (DPI) button on a Mac?

Open Upright's Settings → Buttons, choose MX Vertical under Configure, and pick an action for Top Button. It can run Mission Control, a keyboard shortcut, an app, a URL or a Shortcuts.app shortcut, cycle your pointer-speed presets, or become a Gestures button with five actions.

Can the MX Vertical's back and forward buttons do something else?

Yes. Back and Forward can be mapped to any action, and per-app profiles let them do something different in one app, such as switching tabs in Safari while they go back and forward everywhere else.

Does the MX Vertical work with Upright over Bluetooth?

USB cable and the Unifying receiver are verified on real hardware. Bluetooth is best effort: it depends on macOS exposing the mouse's HID++ interface, and macOS may ask for Input Monitoring. The MX Vertical can't pair with a Bolt receiver.

Does Upright change my MX Vertical permanently?

No. Nothing is written to the mouse's memory. Buttons are only diverted while Upright runs; quit it, or switch the mouse off and on, and every button is back to factory behavior.

Do I need to uninstall Logi Options+?

Quit it and take it out of your login items while you use Upright. Logi Options+, Solaar and LogiOps divert the same buttons, and only one app can have them.
